Where to Stay This Summer

Feature and Photos by Madeline Harris Photography

In honor of highlighting the women that make Maine special, and Summer being on its way, I’m here to tell you about the dreamiest summer getaway, curated by the hostess with the mostess, Melanie. She runs a quaint bnb on Monhegan Island called The Cracked Mug. From the moment you step onto the island, you’re transported to another world, with wild Lupines lining the streets and buoys galore. After a brief walk down the road, you are greeted with Melanie’s friendly smile and a fresh coffee cake.

One of my favorite things about the space (aside from the coffee cake) is the fresh ocean breeze drying the hanging linens and flowing through every bedroom window. As soon as you settle in, the island is yours to explore via 12 miles of breathtaking coastal and wooded trails. Top it all off with a craft beer at Monhegan Brewing Company? Yes please! Then, end your day by watching the sunset from The Cracked Mug’s deck, cozied up in a rocking chair. In the morning, after you wake from the softest slumber in your bamboo sheets, Melanie whips up the most delicious breakfast spread that guests can enjoy in the communal dining/living room, or outside on the deck or in the yard. I kid you not, this place is HEAVEN.

Do yourself a favor and book a stay as soon as you can, and enjoy Melanie’s endless travel stories from her winters off.
